What Storm Water Reaches Before You See It
Rain in a storm arrives sideways and under pressure. A lifted run of shingles puts it into the attic, which sits over every room in the house. A broken window or a limb through a wall puts it into insulation and framing on its way down to a floor. By the time a ceiling stains or a carpet goes dark, the water has already been in the cavity above it.
Blown-in insulation soaks and holds what it takes on, so a cavity stays wet well after the framing around it has let go. Drywall carrying water overhead gets heavy before it looks like anything at all. That's why a house can read dry on the surface by morning and still hold wet material in every cavity the water crossed, and why the meter goes in above head height first.
What We Do
What Storm Damage Restoration Covers
Two jobs sit inside a storm call. One holds the house together while the weather is still moving, and one puts the house back afterwards. Both are our crew's, with a single boundary: exterior roof repair and replacement is Warrior Roofing, the roofing division under the same owner.
Board-Up and Securing
Broken windows, a blown-in door and an opening a limb made through a wall all get closed on the first visit, against the next band of rain and against anyone walking past in the dark. They stay closed until glass and framing can be ordered and set.
Emergency Tarping
We tarp the opening on the same visit, weighted and fastened to hold in wind. That's what buys the roof time until it can be walked in daylight.
The Roof Itself
Exterior roof repair and replacement is Warrior Roofing, Justin Miller's roofing division under the same ownership.
Standing Water Removal
Whatever's sitting on the floor comes up on the first visit, off hard floors, carpet and pad alike. Water left in a pad keeps working into the subfloor and the base of the wall around it.
Damage Assessment
The whole envelope gets checked once it's light: roof line, soffits, windows, siding, and every room under the part that opened. What's wet gets marked before anything is cut.
Structural Drying
Wet insulation comes out first. The rooms then run on air movement and dehumidification until the material reads dry, and the rebuild waits on that number.
Drywall and Reconstruction
Demolition, drywall hang, tape and texture, then paint, trim and flooring, by the same crew that pulled the wet material out. If our tile or flooring installation causes an issue, we return to fix it.
The Written Estimate
Everything the storm did gets priced room by room, and that scope is what goes to your carrier. It's also what the rebuild is measured against before any finish goes back on.
How We Work
From the Call to the Rebuild
The order doesn't change with the weather. What changes on a storm night is how much of it happens in the dark.
The Call
Someone answers 24/7, and we respond within an hour. Tell us what's open, which rooms have water in them, and whether the power is on. If you smell gas, or see wiring in water, that call goes to the utility or 911 ahead of us.
Make It Safe
The first pass on arrival is a hazard check: glass underfoot, a ceiling holding weight it was never built to hold, a panel or a furnace with water near it. Anything on that list is dealt with before our crew starts work in the room.
Cover and Board
Tarp goes over the roof opening and plywood over the broken glass. Both are fastened down so wind doesn't take them off again before morning.
Water Out, Equipment On
Standing water comes up, then air movers and dehumidifiers go in on the wet material. If the street is dark, they run off our generators.
The Scope
We write the estimate on site and submit it to your carrier. Your own decisions are few: whether you're filing a claim, and what goes back on the walls and floors.
Putting the House Back
Once the material is dry it's insulation, board, tape and texture, then paint, trim and flooring, with fixtures and vents reset last.
The Night Of
When a Whole Street Calls at Once
A storm doesn't take one house. It takes a run of them, and the calls come in together. We're owner-operated, with a crew of 6 and three response units. Across an ordinary week that covers the service area. On a night when a line of storms crosses it, there are more houses standing open than there are trucks to put a tarp on them.
So the first visit on a storm night is scoped to one thing: stopping the loss from growing. Openings get covered and boarded, standing water comes up, and the drying equipment goes in and gets left running. Nothing is rebuilt at 2 a.m., and nothing needs to be. What matters overnight is that the house stops taking on weather and the material that's already wet starts giving it up.
Power is the other half of it. Drying equipment is useless on a dead circuit, so the trucks carry generators and the dry-out starts on our own power. The roof itself waits for daylight, when Warrior Roofing can walk it safely and price that half of the scope. One thing helps before we get there, if it's safe to do: cut the breaker to any circuit running through water.
